A private workflow for client photo references

Keep the client’s original photograph and an approved working crop separate. The original preserves colour and contextual information; the crop is the composition you will measure. Give both clear names, including the job and date. Avoid relying on screenshots from a message thread, since they can change resolution and framing.

Make the overlay locally, export a ruler-checkable PDF for physical transfer, and keep it with the job notes. ArtGrid processes the image in your browser rather than uploading it to an ArtGrid server. That does not remove your own responsibility: only retain the files as long as your stated client practice requires, and do not casually send source photos through unrelated services.

Before starting, confirm final size, crop, and paper format with the client. These are decisions that are cheap before the block-in and costly after a likeness is developed. A measured reference gives a commission a repeatable, auditable starting point.
